  • When to choose FlexJobs over an alternative?

The truth is that FlexJobs is not for everyone.

So in this article, I want to give you the right information to help you decide if it's right for you.

FlexJobs.com Review: How It Works and What to Expect (2)

FlexJobs is legit and does what it says: validate remote and flexible job offers. FlexJobs also provides a platform to easily search and find these jobs, which is difficult on many of the larger job boards. Listings are aggregated from freely available sources, so there are no subscriber-only listings. Pricing is affordable at just $14.95 per month (use code WEALTH for 30% off) and you can cancel anytime. We recommend FlexJobs to those who have narrowed down the type of work they are looking for and are ready to apply for that position.

  • Listings are manually reviewed to eliminate fraud.
  • Money back guarantee and non-binding cancellation policy.
  • Searches and filters specifically designed to find the type of remote work you're looking for.

  • You must pay a membership fee to view job details.
  • No feedback system, which can be helpful when starting out as a freelancer or self-employed.

FlexJobs Review: The Basics

FlexJobs is a job board that lists job openings for all types of flexible work arrangements. They're known as a remote work board, but they really have all kinds of flexible work arrangements.

This can include:

  • alternative time: Jobs where you can determine your own working hours.
  • self employed: Jobs where you work as an independent contractor for a company.
  • Jobs Completely Removed: Positions that never require you to work in a certain location.
  • semi-remote jobs: Full-time jobs that allow you to work part-time from home.
  • In the middle: Short-term jobs for a specific period of time.

Every job posting you see on FlexJobs has been reviewed.

You can search for jobs on the site for free. Depending on your search criteria, you will get a list of jobs that FlexJobs has available with a brief summary of the position (as shown in the screenshot below).

FlexJobs.com Review: How It Works and What to Expect (3)

To access more details about the job, especially who the company is and how to apply, you need to become a paying member.

Below is an example of what you would see as a paying subscriber when opening a job listing.

Find jobs on FlexJobs

While there are some additional offerings (which we'll detail below), here's a closer look at FlexJobs' search capabilities.

After logging in, you will be taken to a personalized dashboard where you can start looking for jobs.

FlexJobs.com Review: How It Works and What to Expect (7)

On this board you will find:

  • Advanced search: Filter jobs by various criteria (which we'll discuss below).
  • last activity: Find recently viewed and saved jobs, saved searches, and application history.
  • continue profiles: Create your profile, including a title. There is a box to check that will give you some tips on creating the right profile headline. FlexJobs recommends multiple resume profiles for scenarios like same industry/new job, same industry/different jobs, same industry/remote work, completely new career field, new industry/same job, and new industry/new job. If you have more than one resume profile, you can select the one you want to send to a prospective employer.
  • View new jobs of interest: This tab shows the new jobs most relevant to your search. To fill it out, you must first create a resume profile.
  • skill test: There are several job skills tests you can take to highlight your strengths. Your results will appear on your resume profile for potential employers to see. You can also view your results on this tab.
  • Account Settings: Here you can manage your contact information, password, billing, update or cancel your subscription and visit the FAQ section.
  • member savings: Here you can get discounts on a variety of offers and services, e.g. B. 20% off Grammarly, special offers from Dell, and a one-month free trial of LinkedIn Learning.
  • news this week: This is a weekly summary of FlexJobs in the news.

search for jobs

There are dozens of job categories on FlexJobs. However, you can use the advanced search feature to narrow them down and find the most relevant opportunities.

FlexJobs.com Review: How It Works and What to Expect (8)

FlexJobs job categories

There are 11 criteria you can use to refine your search:

  • key words: I've found that it's best to start broad and then narrow. For example, use "video game" instead of "game developer". This is because employers don't always write a post in a way that will survive overly specific keyword research.
  • US location: Filter by city, state or zip code. Some employers and some roles prefer (or even require) employees to be in the same geographic area as the business, even if the work is 100% remote. If a company has this requirement and you try to apply even though you are outside this range, FlexJobs will show a message stating that you are outside the range to apply for that vacancy.
  • Kind of work: Salaried, self-employed or temporary.
  • categories: These are the job categories and some of them could be further refined.
  • career level: Choose from Beginner, Experienced, Manager or Senior Manager.
  • Employers selected and awarded- Browse categories like Top 100 Remote, Best Company to Work For X (various states) and America's Happiest Companies.
  • Delete Words: Sometimes knowing what you don't want is just as important as knowing what you do want!
  • International: If you are not located in the United States or want to work for an international company, you can choose from a list of countries.
  • work schedule: part-time, occasional, short-term, etc.
  • remote work level: Any level, 100% remote work, partial remote work, remote work option.

job application

When you find an interesting job posting, click on it and you will see all the details of that job, including key responsibilities and required/desired skills.

At the bottom of the page, you will see the icon that will take you to the company's app page. Follow the procedures for applying for the position.

Additional Features and Membership Benefits

Other services included in your FlexJobs subscription are:

  • test skills: You can take a test for over 170 skills, from computer skills to health and personality tests. If you score above 70%, your score will appear on your profile and the only employers who will be able to see it are those you applied to through FlexJobs or those who found your resume on the site.
  • continue profiles: Employers can search for potential employees here. You can import your LinkedIn profile, which takes up most of this screen, and attach your resume. You don't have to fill it all in again.
  • Members only videos: These are webinars on topics like resume tips and career change tips.
  • Learning Center: The Learning Center is a great resource. It offers courses on topics such as recovering from a layoff, working remotely and building a flexible career. There are also downloadable guides on topics like starting to work from home and getting back to work after having kids.

Career curriculum and coaching

FlexJobs offers four services to paying members for an additional fee:

(Video) What Is FlexJobs and How Does It Work?

  1. career coaching. A 30-minute training session for $64.
  2. keep checking. $129 for a resume check and update.
  3. Career Coaching + Curriculum Pack. Total $ 164.
  4. mock interview. $64 for a 30-minute hands-on interview.

All of these services are offered individually with a FlexJobs Career Consultant.

As a general rule, running coaches run$75 to $150 per hourduring the cost of CV renovationsUS$ 100 a US$ 400. When you pay for these services through FlexJobs, you work with a career advisor who specializes in remote work. Therefore, we believe that these services are affordable.

Advantages and disadvantages

FlexJobsIt's a great feature, but not for everyone.

  • Manually verified job postings mean no scams. Scammers are sneaky and no matter how smart you are, you could fall victim to one. At FlexJobs you don't have to worry about that.
  • Excellent search, sorting and filtering features.. On big job sites (like Indeed), it's hard to limit your search to just remote positions because entering a location is a key ranking factor. FlexJobs makes it a lot easier than those boards to find the flexible working arrangement you're looking for.
  • You can configure email notifications. Sometimes finding a job is as much about time as it is about a good resume. When you're notified when a job that matches your criteria is published, you won't miss out on any opportunities.
  • Money back guarantee and easy cancellation policy. It only takes seconds to cancel your account and they have a 30 day money back guarantee.
  • You can set your account to expire after one month.
  • no ads. The FlexJobs website is not overloaded with ads. As a membership site, you don't have to earn money from advertising.

  • No payment protection. If you apply for jobs on many freelance sites, apply through this site. So these sites can make sure the customer pays you. FlexJobs is an intermediary and therefore does not facilitate or guarantee payment.
  • sem feedback. If you're trying to build a freelance or remote career, customer feedback is a huge help. Many freelance sites allow clients to post public feedback, and a strong feedback profile can lead to more work and better prices. There is no such option in FlexJobs, which can make it very difficult for those without experience to get a job.
  • The salary rate is not always listed..

FlexJobs x alternativas

As FlexJobs offers a wide variety of ways to work, there are many alternatives.

Let's see how FlexJobs compares below:

  • Popular job boards like Indeed and Monster.
  • Virtual Vocations, a site that has a very similar offering.
  • Freelance job boards like Upwork and Fiverr.

Flex Jobs vs. Indeed (and other general job search sites)

The biggest names in the job search are Indeed, Monster and LinkedIn.

Among them, there is not a single job search site, as it depends on what you are looking for. But for the purposes of this review, let's look at how these popular job boards help you find flexible jobs.

As you'll see, one thing that really stands out is FlexJobs' ability to filter and refine your search for specific types of flexible work arrangements. For example, on a job board like Monster, you can filter out opportunities that are only remotely available. However, additional filters such as freelance or part-time are not available.

In fact

In facthas the most jobs of any location. They collect jobs from various websites, but the jobs are unverified and often not updated. Listings tend to be more basic, which can also mean a lot of competition.

Finding flexible work arrangements on Indeed is difficult.

When looking for a job, Indeed asks for your location:

FlexJobs.com Review: How It Works and What to Expect (10)

You can type in "United States" to get jobs across the country, but you'll still get a wide variety of remote job types, just like yours.

Monsteris similar to Indeed in that its inventory of available jobs is among the largest on the web. You can also sort by remote jobs on the platform.

However, the downside of Monster is that it offers very limited search filtering capabilities. There is no way to filter by freelancer, part-time, part-time, experience level, etc.

With you you can search for remote jobs across the countryLinkedIn. There is also the option to order by remote control only.

FlexJobs.com Review: How It Works and What to Expect (11)

LinkedIn is known as one of the most expensive job boards for employers. As a result, you won't find as many entry-level or commission jobs.

One advantage of LinkedIn is that your profile serves as a resume for many recruiters. If you have extensive work experience, this is a great place to apply.

In general, LinkedIn is great if you know exactly the company you want to work for or want to connect with recruiters in your industry.

Flexible jobs vs virtual jobs

Another job search site with a very similar business model to FlexJobsvirtual professions.

Like FlexJobs, Virtual Vocations is a remote job aggregator that checks all listings on its website. You can get information about certain jobs as a free member but to unlock all the details you have to pay.

Virtual Vocations premium subscriptions start at $15.99 per month. There are no weekly payment options and coupon codes are not as widespread. As such, it tends to be a bit more expensive (though not by much).

Virtual Vocations has a solid reputation with an A+ BBB rating.

(Video) FlexJobs Review (is it worth it in 2021?)

The two biggest differences between Virtual Vocations and FlexJobs are:

  • FlexJobs specializes in all types of flexible working arrangements, while Virtual Vocations specializes in just that.jobs at home.
  • Virtual Vocations only has US company listings, while FlexJobs is open to employers from around the world.

FlexJobs vs. Mercados Freelance

Freelance jobs on FlexJobs generally require previous experience and are long-term commitments. Also, most of the freelance opportunities you will find on FlexJobs are more common roles such as writing, transcription, developer and graphic designer.

Independent markets likecincoYprocessingOn the other hand, they are more temporary jobs and it is easier to find a job as a beginner. Moreover, the tasks are very diverse.

For example, a search for "podcast editor" only returns 3 jobs in FlexJobs and 38 jobs in Upwork. So, if you have more non-traditional skills, you can find more success in freelance marketplaces like Upwork.

In general, potential freelancers are likely to find it more difficult to land a contract through FlexJobs. Most jobs require a certain level of experience. If this applies to you, we recommend that you first gain experience in the freelance markets and then head to FlexJobs for opportunities.

recommended: If you want to succeed as a freelancer, we'll walk you through the process in ourGuide to starting a freelance business.

If you have experience in some of the more popular freelance careers, FlexJobs is a great place to land long-term projects.

You can also learn more about how to use these platforms in our articles.how to make money with fiverrYhow to make money with upwork.

common questions

These are some of the most frequently asked questions about FlexJobs. If you're looking for information that wasn't covered in this review, let us know by leaving a comment below and we'll investigate the answer and add it to this section.

Who owns and operates FlexJobs?

FlexJobs was founded by Sara Sutton in 2007 and Sutton is the CEO of the company. Previously, he had started an employment agency and found that employers and jobseekers were increasingly looking for people open to remote/off-site work.

The company is headquartered in Boulder, Colorado and employs approximately 20 people.FlexJobs has an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau (BBB).and a 4.53 rating (out of five) based on over 50 user reviews.

How much does FlexJobs cost?

Pay in advance for a one-week, one-month, three-month or annual subscription. The weekly rate is the lowest at $6.95. The monthly fee is US$14.95. You can also opt for a deeply discounted annual subscription that costs $49.95 (about 70% of the monthly price).

If youRecord, be sure to use our promo code (WEALTH) to save 30%.

Why pay for FlexJobs when you can search for free?

While you can search for jobs for free, you won't be able to see company and app details unless you sign up as a member.

How do you get paid at FlexJobs?

When you're hired for a position you find on FlexJobs, your new employer will pay you directly, usually by wire transfer to your bank account, but sometimes by check or PayPal. Unlike Upwork and Fiverr, FlexJobs does not facilitate payments and is not involved in the payment process.

(Video) FlexJobs Review - How Good Is This Job Site?

Why are some jobs in FlexJobs blue?

When consulting the offers on the website, you will see the positions in two colors: orange and blue. Orange headlines are job openings posted directly on the site by audited and verified "Featured Employers".

In other words, these are companies that have been verified by FlexJobs and given permission to post job openings on the site without each and every one of them being verified by the site's staff.

Blue titles are listings where thecertain jobwas investigated and verified by FlexJobs employees. They may come from companies that are not "Featured Employers".

How often does FlexJobs update its offerings?

New jobs are added every day, but some users have reported that job openings are not always removed from the site in a timely manner, meaning they have applied for jobs that are no longer available.

What is the importance of competency tests at FlexJobs?

Skills tests are losing importance in the remote/freelance space. For example, Upwork recently removed them from freelancer profiles and is ending its skills assessment program completely.

The reason for this is simple: people have been tricked into sharing the questions online.

While a successful skill on your profile can help you get noticed or get your foot in the door, we don't recommend spending too much time on it.

FlexJobs Review Summary: Is It Worth It?

My recommendation is that FlexJobs is worth the price. However, before signing up, you should know exactly what you're looking for.

Ask yourself questions like:

  • What is my ideal professional role right now?
  • What kind of company do I want to work for?
  • What kind of flexible job am I looking for?

After specifying, go to FlexJobs and do a free search to see if they have any opportunities. If they do, it's worth paying a small fee to access these opportunities.
