FlexJobs is a job board that lists job openings for all types of flexible work arrangements. They're known as a remote work board, but they really have all kinds of flexible work arrangements.

On this board you will find:

• View new jobs of interest: This tab shows the new jobs most relevant to your search. To fill it out, you must first create a resume profile.

There are 11 criteria you can use to refine your search:

• key words: I've found that it's best to start broad and then narrow. For example, use "video game" instead of "game developer". This is because employers don't always write a post in a way that will survive overly specific keyword research.
• US location: Filter by city, state or zip code. Some employers and some roles prefer (or even require) employees to be in the same geographic area as the business, even if the work is 100% remote. If a company has this requirement and you try to apply even though you are outside this range, FlexJobs will show a message stating that you are outside the range to apply for that vacancy.
• Kind of work: Salaried, self-employed or temporary.
• categories: These are the job categories and some of them could be further refined.
• career level: Choose from Beginner, Experienced, Manager or Senior Manager.
• Employers selected and awarded- Browse categories like Top 100 Remote, Best Company to Work For X (various states) and America's Happiest Companies.
• Delete Words: Sometimes knowing what you don't want is just as important as knowing what you do want!
• International: If you are not located in the United States or want to work for an international company, you can choose from a list of countries.
• work schedule: part-time, occasional, short-term, etc.
• remote work level: Any level, 100% remote work, partial remote work, remote work option.

At the bottom of the page, you will see the icon that will take you to the company's app page. Follow the procedures for applying for the position.

Additional Features and Membership Benefits

Other services included in your FlexJobs subscription are:

• test skills: You can take a test for over 170 skills, from computer skills to health and personality tests. If you score above 70%, your score will appear on your profile and the only employers who will be able to see it are those you applied to through FlexJobs or those who found your resume on the site.
• continue profiles: Employers can search for potential employees here. You can import your LinkedIn profile, which takes up most of this screen, and attach your resume. You don't have to fill it all in again.
• Members only videos: These are webinars on topics like resume tips and career change tips.
• Learning Center: The Learning Center is a great resource. It offers courses on topics such as recovering from a layoff, working remotely and building a flexible career. There are also downloadable guides on topics like starting to work from home and getting back to work after having kids.

Career curriculum and coaching

FlexJobs offers four services to paying members for an additional fee:

1. career coaching. A 30-minute training session for $64.
2. keep checking. $129 for a resume check and update.
3. Career Coaching + Curriculum Pack. Total $ 164.
4. mock interview. $64 for a 30-minute hands-on interview.

• No payment protection. If you apply for jobs on many freelance sites, apply through this site. So these sites can make sure the customer pays you. FlexJobs is an intermediary and therefore does not facilitate or guarantee payment.

Flex Jobs vs. Indeed (and other general job search sites)

The biggest names in the job search are Indeed, Monster and LinkedIn.

Among them, there is not a single job search site, as it depends on what you are looking for. But for the purposes of this review, let's look at how these popular job boards help you find flexible jobs.

As you'll see, one thing that really stands out is FlexJobs' ability to filter and refine your search for specific types of flexible work arrangements. For example, on a job board like Monster, you can filter out opportunities that are only remotely available. However, additional filters such as freelance or part-time are not available.

Finding flexible work arrangements on Indeed is difficult.

Monster

Monsteris similar to Indeed in that its inventory of available jobs is among the largest on the web. You can also sort by remote jobs on the platform.

However, the downside of Monster is that it offers very limited search filtering capabilities. There is no way to filter by freelancer, part-time, part-time, experience level, etc.

LinkedIn

Virtual Vocations premium subscriptions start at $15.99 per month. There are no weekly payment options and coupon codes are not as widespread. As such, it tends to be a bit more expensive (though not by much).

Virtual Vocations has a solid reputation with an A+ BBB rating.

The two biggest differences between Virtual Vocations and FlexJobs are:

• FlexJobs specializes in all types of flexible working arrangements, while Virtual Vocations specializes in just that.jobs at home.
• Virtual Vocations only has US company listings, while FlexJobs is open to employers from around the world.

Freelance jobs on FlexJobs generally require previous experience and are long-term commitments. Also, most of the freelance opportunities you will find on FlexJobs are more common roles such as writing, transcription, developer and graphic designer.

For example, a search for "podcast editor" only returns 3 jobs in FlexJobs and 38 jobs in Upwork. So, if you have more non-traditional skills, you can find more success in freelance marketplaces like Upwork.

In general, potential freelancers are likely to find it more difficult to land a contract through FlexJobs. Most jobs require a certain level of experience. If this applies to you, we recommend that you first gain experience in the freelance markets and then head to FlexJobs for opportunities.
